Disclaimer: I do not own the Predator movie series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
I’d just like to say a big thank you to Circle of Addictions, Chancelor22, MuseofScrolls, Keen, Shalimar, Prairiefire, and all the others who have been patient and supporting. It’s been quite a while since I updated this story, and a few times I’ve felt like not continuing. So here it is. I gotta warn you though; the next couple of chapters aren’t going to be as intense as the last few. I hope you enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sighing, I lean against the wall in my shower. Running my hand through my locks, I close my eyes. I wish the water would just wash away the way I feel, but, I know it will not. I have yet to decide my exact course of action. I know I will have to, and soon. Within the next half hour or less, we will be leaving Ceta’s ship. I hope the little female is all right.
My thoughts are broken by a voice. “Pardon me, Elder Sa’ilek.”
Turning, I find my navigator standing just outside the shower. “Yes, No’at?”
The young male bows to me in respect. “You have an urgent message from Grand Elder So’ghan.”
Nodding, I turn the shower off and approach the access panel on my chair. Placing my loincloth on, I press the button to open the channel, and the Grand Elder’s image appears. We bow to each other, and before I raise my head, he begins to speak. “Greetings, Elder Sa’ilek. What brings you far out to this region?”
Can I trust him? Should I tell him? Smiling I respond, “I have some minor repairs to be done to my ship. I also wish to see how my grandson’s are going.”
So’ghan’s brows rise questionably. “I have not long left your mother ship. They are doing fine, Sa’ilek, and should perform well in their trials.”
My chest swells with pride at So’ghan’s words. He is not a male to give out praise where it is not due. “Thank you, Grand Elder.”
A moment of awkward silence seems to fall over both of us. “Elder Sa’ilek, there is something I wish to bring to your attention.”
Swallowing hard, I nod, and he continues. “Your son has broken codes. I am recommending an Arbitrator be sent to investigate the matter. I was thinking of calling on Re’san of the G’navi clan. Does this sit well with you?”
Once again I bow my head to him. “As you wish, Grand Elder.”
It is so unlike So’ghan to ask if anything sat well with anyone. As I mentioned before, So’ghan is a very pompous Yautja. He rarely asks anyone’s opinion about anything. That is, other than his primary mates.
Noticing So’ghan’s chest expand I grunt softly as he speaks. “I do wish, and it shall be done. I am having trouble contacting him. Do you know of his whereabouts?”
The look of utter shock on So’ghan’s face, and Re’san’s scent tells me that he has just entered my quarters. “Well, it appears I have found him.”
Re’san bows his head to So’ghan. But what So’ghan did not see in the dim light was Re’san’s slitted eyes.
Short of killing other main council members and members of the arbitrator council, So’ghan had done everything in his power to stop Re’san’s appointment as an arbitrator.
That fact had not gone unseen by members of either council, or Re’san himself.
On many occasions, So’ghan has sent Re’san on missions deemed appropriate for two or more arbitrators, sent him alone with the hope he would fail and be proven unworthy of the position. Many times So’ghan has been proven wrong.
Folding his arms in front of him, Re’san then sighs softly. “What is it you wish for me to do, Grand Elder?”
Re’san and I stand silently as So’ghan presses a button on his screen panel. After a few seconds, an image of an Ooman female materializes before us. Her exact size, impossible to tell, but as Oomans go they are all small compared to us in any case. I see Re’san studying her image as So’ghan begins to speak. “I have reason to believe that Cro’vin has abducted this young mother, and that she is in grave danger. I feel she should be reunited with her offspring immediately.”
Re’san grunts in response as the image of the little female fades before I have a chance to study it further. “If that is the case, why did you not intervene yourself?”
Smiling inwardly, I watch So’ghan squirm under Re’san’s gaze. With Re’san being well over 400 years So’ghan’s junior, it is so beautiful to watch him make So’ghan so uncomfortable. So’ghan clears his throat and his brows rise. “It is almost mating season, and I am already behind schedule. Any later and I shall miss out totally.”
Lowering my head, I pretend to look at something on the floor. I have to, so So’ghan cannot see my grin. Re’san grunts and begins to speak just as I compose myself and finally raise my head. “Well, if you change your old fashioned ways and allow males more access to their mates, breeding season would become more frequent.”
So’ghan clears his throat and puffs his chest out, a bid to regain dominance. “I have informed Cro’vin, that if the female is harmed further, there will be serious consequences.”
Re’san growls softly as he bows his head. “I shall investigate the matter, Grand Elder.”
I bow my head to So’ghan, as his image fades.
Re’san and I glance at each other and shake our heads. As we turn, we see Ceta move from out of the shadows. The anger can be clearly seen in his eyes. Grunting, he walks closer to us, and I begin to wonder how long he had been standing there.
Ceta points to the direction the image had emanated from and growls. “If he thinks that is going to protect that little female from further harm, he is even more arrogant and naïve than his father before him.”
Ceta and So’ghan once held a deep friendship. That friendship had been broken when So’ghan turned his back on Ceta. So’ghan’s father, a member of the council, opposed the appointment of Ceta’s father as a Grand Elder. With only one member being in opposition, Ceta’s father was overlooked. Though it could not be proven with out reasonable doubt, the reasoning was the involvement of Ceta’s father with an Ooman female.
It was the actions of So’ghan’s father that caused the great warrior to break away from the main circle of clans, not long after he formed the Ti’karani clan. My clan and the G’navi were soon to follow. Though returning from time to time when rituals deem it necessary, almost all contact has been broken.
Ceta shakes his head and I see him focus on the direction of the access panel. “Any word on her condition?”
Sighing, I shake my head. “No, but she must still be alive, or he would not have even bothered contacting us.”
Ceta’s brows rise as he nods his head. I see him deep in thought as a buzzer sounds on his wrist computer and a voice is heard. “Ready to open docking bay doors, Elder.”
Looking at each other, we nod. Ceta takes a deep breath and gives his order. “Proceed”
As I approach my chair, I hear the clunk of the doors echo throughout my ship. I turn to my friends as I send a communication to my navigator. “No’at, input co-ordinates. Then begin our journey as soon as the doors open.”
My thoughts drift back to the image of the little female, only to be broken once again by No’at’s voice. “As you wish, Elder.”
Something had been puzzling me for a little while now. I know how inquisitive Ceta’s sons are. Looking to my friend, I ask him. “What did you tell your sons my friend?”
A sly smile forms on his face and his brows rise. “I told them I was going for a spin in your ship, and that we may go on a hunt if the opportunity arises.”
Re’san shakes his head and I laugh. Ceta grunts in response as he turns to Re’san. “What? I did not lie to them and I did not tell them exactly what was happening, either. I must have some adventures on my own, must I not?”
Chuckling, I nod in agreement. “Yes, my friend. You must. What about Sian’ta?”
Ceta grunts, then sighs. “That, my friend, was a different matter. I told my mate all of what is going on. If my niece was not due to give birth at any moment, she would be here with us.”
Leaning forward, I place my hand on his shoulder and I smile. “I know she would be, my friend.”
Looking out the observation window, I notice the doors have finished opening. I barely feel the ship lift slightly to clear the platform. As soon as we are clear, No’at turns the ship and the stars begin to speed by.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Waking, I feel the softness of a mattress beneath me. I begin to move, and I hear a soft growl. My heart races in fear. It is a different pitch to the Healer. Turning to the direction of the growl, I see a huge male approaching me. I struggle to get up, to move myself away from him. The male stops his approach and simply bows his head. "The Healer has asked me to sit with you, little female."Looking to the mask in the male’s hand, I see a lightning bolt mark etched into the forehead. Taking in more of the detail on the mask, I begin to remember some of the patterning. The mask has a scroll pattern down its sides. The male growls softly as he looks to the direction of my gaze. “The Grand Elder has given me orders to remain here for a time to ensure Cro'vin keeps to his word."
Shaking my head, I feel like laughing even though I know this is no laughing matter. "I don't think that is going to stop him."
The huge male grunts in response. From his stance and flexing fist, I can tell my comment angers him slightly. "I do not think he is that naive or cunning, little female. He will stick to guidelines. But.... I can understand your concern."
Closing my eyes, I rub my forehead. It hurts. I always seem to get a headache if I have had too much sleep. "If I may ask, how long have I been unconscious?”
Hearing a scraping sound, I open my eyes. The male is now sitting on a chair beside me. "You may speak to me freely and without fear, little female, but be mindful to show me respect. In answer to your question, you have been unconscious for five days. The Healer should be here to check on you soon."
Covering my mouth, I swallow hard as my stomach begins to churn. There is a soft growl from the male beside me. "Are you all right?"
Quickly glancing to the male, I shake my head no. I flinch as he brushes a strand of hair away from my face. "Shall I call for the Healer early?"
Rubbing my head, I shake it no again. "No, I'm sure he has better things to do other than treat me all the time."
The huge male chuckles as he looks down at me. “Oh, I do not know about that. I think he finds you somewhat a refreshing change from treating the warriors of this ship. Not to mention you have certainly tugged at the Grand Elder's heartstrings."
As I begin to shudder, the huge male pulls and extra sheet over me. "Stay warm, little female. You can not afford to get a chill."
Nodding my head in agreement, I carefully curl myself into a ball. The pain is still there, but not as great. I feel myself drifting off to sleep once more.
Moments pass, and I jump from my light sleep as the door slides open. The male places his hand on my shoulder as a masked male comes into view. "Be still, little one. It is the Healer."
Even though I cannot see his eyes through the mask, I know he is looking at me. I flinch as the male rubs my shoulder. "He is scanning you, to see how you have healed."
He tells me this to try to settle my nerves, I know, but I still tremble with fear. The male, the Healer, shakes his head as he begins to remove his mask. "Unfortunately you have healed enough to return to your duties, but I will try to keep you here for another few days."
The male approaches the Healer and they begin to talk. With their hushed tones, I cannot hear what is being said. I can, though, see a needle in the Healers hand. Looking to me, then back to the other male, the Healer nods. "I have something in my bag that will help."
Slowly approaching me with the needle, I see the Healer bow his head to the huge male, who is approaching also. "I hope you will keep this our little secret, warrior?"
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see the huge male bow his head in return. As he reaches the bed, he then turns his head to me. "No female should ever be treated this way."
There is a familiar sharp pick in my thigh, and the medication begins to act. Through my drooping eyelids, I see the Healer remove a bag of fluids from his bag. He then inserts a tube with a needle in the end to the bag. As he reaches for my hand, the darkness claims me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Leaning back in my chair, I close my eyes. Listening intently, I can almost hear the all but silent engines of my ship. I allow my mind to wander with the knowledge that So'ghan had visited my mother ship. He has never, bothered to set foot on it before. Why now? Why was he there? Did Cro'vin think that maybe, if he allowed So'ghan access to the little female, that he would turn a blind eye?So'ghan's visit to my mother ship was a blessing in disguise, but it could also cause the little female more harm. Cro'vin may get more desperate to cover his tracks. I only hope Sonny has been able to protect her in some way.
The first time I met Sonny was during a hunt on the outskirts of the Dark Territory. He was barely old enough to be out on his own, and he almost succumbed to injuries he suffered in a fight with a carnivore that was native to the planet. Keeping an eye on the youngster, he managed to make back to his so called home only to collapse. I do not know what possessed me to take him in, but never once have I regretted my decision.
His loyal nature and his eagerness to attempt any task given to him made him a pleasure to have around. As his strength developed, I gave him basic training so he would be able to defend himself should the need arise. Then, I set him to work as my personal servant, and at times an assistant to my brother.
When I left my mother ship for a species of Ooman, he had developed into a rather large male. If one were to give him mandibles, talons, and locks, he would have the physique of a Young Blood.
In a reflective surface, I see the images of my friends. I turn, and Ceta smiles at me. He knows that, as a father, this tears me apart. "Come, Sa’ilek, it has been a while since we have had a good spar, my boy."
Looking at Ceta, I chuckle as he reaches out, grabs my arm, and pulls me to a standing position. I glance to an old carving Cro'vin made me when he was a youngling and sigh. "I wish I knew why he has done such things."
Ceta places a supportive arm around my shoulder. "As do Re'san and I. It seems like only yesterday he was a suckling in your arms."
Smiling, I nod in agreement as I remember him: his size, colouring, the way smelled; so pure and untouched. Sighing, I lower my head, trying to figure out where things went wrong. "Do you think it could be because of his illness?"
Shrugging his shoulders as he sighs, Ceta guides me out the door and towards the training hall. "It could very well be, Sa'ilek."
Cro'vin had taken ill not long after turning five. None of the Doctors or Natural Healers ever figured out what ailed him. All I know is that we nearly lost him, and his physical and mental development were severely impaired. I have seen Oomans taller than my son. His build, although much larger than an Ooman, is much smaller than any Yautja his age.
Though proud he did, I am surprised he even made it through his manhood ritual, much less be chosen as a mate. But he has produced five sucklings so far between his two mates. I pray to the gods in hope that their father's behaviour has not tainted the two grandsons that reside on my mother ship.
My body feels like it is being pulled to the left, and looking up I see that Ceta has pulled me into the training hall. In my wandering mind, I had not even realised the trek through the halls of my ship.
Shaking my head, I know I have to focus. Re'san nods to me as he picks up a practice staff, then makes his way to the centre of the hall. Slowly picking up another staff, I make my way to the centre also. Bowing our heads to each other, we begin.
Re'san swings his staff around towards my side. It will connect with me if I don't block it successfully. After blocking his attack, I take my staff in both hands and engage Re'san with short sharp blows. He evades my attack with little effort. Trying to surprise him, I bring my staff above my head, leaving me open for attack, only to change at the last minute to direct a blow at his side. Re'san anticipates my move and blocks it.
We come together, locking staves and engage in a test of strength. We push against each other, both of us trying to gain the upper hand. Despite our differences in height, our strength seems equally matched. Small amounts of sweat roll off our bodies. Damn heating regulators! They are playing up again. Both of us seem to release the pressure at the same time. Hearing a clapping noise, we turn to see Ceta approaching with a smile. "Well done, my boys."
Ceta moves to the weapons stand. Taking two blades from it, he tosses one to me, I catch it with one hand. Ceta slices the air with his blade as he approaches me. I am barely in position before he yells. "Begin"
As we begin, I remember his words from training with him when I was younger. 'You must always be at the ready, Sa'ilek. You never know when your foe will strike. Hone your senses; be ready for anything at anytime. You must appear to have eyes in the back of your head.'
Most of Ceta's training was like that. Training, within reason, was anywhere, anytime with him, and it has saved my life on many occasions.
Ceta lunges forward, and our blades make contact. 'Surprise your opponent, Sa'ilek. You need to adapt to them. Think as they do.
Bringing my leg around Ceta's, I sweep it out from underneath him, and he lands on the ground with a thud. "Very sneaky, my boy. You remembered that move."
Bowing slightly, as he rises to his feet. I rush at him, but he is ready for me. Ceta effortlessly blocks me, and I tumble away before he can execute his next move. Quickly rising to me feet, I notice his grin. "I feel you will have no trouble defeating Cro'vin. You have trained him. You know his style."
Hearing the shuffling of feet my concentration is broken. Ceta hits the blade out of my hand. He pushes me of balance and I fall heavily to the ground. I can feel the coldness of his blade against my throat, but his voice is calm. "You must remember to focus, Sa'ilek. You are going to do the honor of your blood line no service if you are killed."
Looking up, I see Ceta's hand extended. Nodding slowly at him I grab his hand. I know he is correct. Either he or Re'san would deal with Cro'vin if he was successful in bringing me down. The little female would be saved, but only I can regain my families honor.
Ceta pulls me to my feet as he pats my back. We turn to see my crew sitting before us on the floor. No’at is the first to speak. "You wished to speak with us, Elder?"
I forgot I had summoned them together. I have to tell them the exact details involved in our mission. All of them have heard the rumours about Cro'vin. Most of them have mates and daughters. Hopefully they would understand our course of action.
"As you may know, we are making our way back to the mother ship."
My warriors nod their heads, and I rub my necklace in thought. I do not know how they will react to the fact we are going to save an Ooman. "Cro'vin has abducted more Ooman's from the main Ooman planet, one of which is a female, with offspring."
Looking at my warriors, I see the shocked expression on all their faces. There are strict guidelines in regards to females of prey with offspring. They are to be left alone at all costs. Often, even if they do happen to be armed and the area's location is sparse of Oomans, to be assured of future hunts, mercy is often shown.
None seemed more shocked than Ky'ono. Now a full-blooded warrior, Ky'ono had passed his man hood trial nearly twenty years ago. It was a well-known fact that he had taken an Ooman female as a mate only to have her murdered by our kind, evidence pointing to more than one bad blood being involved.
Shaking his head, Ky'ono lowers his gaze from mine. "What has he done to her, Elder?"
Taking in a deep breath, I begin. I cannot lie to them, even though it is my dishonorable son that has committed the offence. "To'amet has informed me that Cro'vin and Eal'cra abuse the female often. Grand Elder So'ghan has requested that the female be reunited with her offspring. We are to give Arbitrator Re'san our assistance in this matter."
I notice my warriors’ gaze fall on Re’san and they all nod in agreement. I turn to Ceta, his eyes fixed on Ky'ono. Glancing down to Ky'ono, I notice him checking his dagger. Hearing No'at grunt, I glance to him. "What abuse has the female suffered?"
Not that it really matters, but he will be our greatest opposition. Although he would never go against codes, I know he does not like Oomans very much. "Tell me my young navigator. Other than your mother and aunts, do you have any females in your family?"
He glances up to me; his chest expands with pride and he begins to list his family. "I have a mate, ten sisters, and forty-five nieces, Elder."
Moving closer to him, I squat down to his level. "Well then, No'at, think of the worst possible abuse a male can cause a female."
As I rise I look across to Ky'ono, and notice blood drip from the palm of his hand. Our eyes make contact. Anger laces his low growl as his gaze drifts off again. "They have raped her, and one by one they shall die."
Kneeling down in front of him, I place my hand on his shoulder. As I grip it firmly, his gaze shifts back to me. "Thank you, Ky'ono, but I shall deal with my son."
He nods, and as I rise, I address all of the warriors before me. "However, Eal'cra and any others are fair game. Any one wishing to join the search for the female is more than welcome. I imagine they will hide her on our arrival."
The warriors before me nod, none of them unwilling to undertake the task at hand. Not that Ceta, Re'san, and I could not do this on our own, but the more eyes and ears we have, the better. One by one, my warriors rise, bow to me, and then leave.
Ceta glances to Re’san, and myself then to the blood on the floor. "That Ky'ono is an angry young male."
Grunting, I look at the drops of blood that he left. "He has every right to be. On a hunt to a nearby system, he took an Ooman as a mate. She was raped by several Yautja and murdered. They had just found out she was heavy with his suckling."
Re'san lowers his head and shakes it. "Does he know of their identity?"
Grabbing a nearby cloth, I sigh as I wipe the blood off the floor. "Not by name, but he does remember the scent they left quite well. Come to think of it, Cro'vin and his friends had taken leave in that area. As much as it disgusts me, it really would not surprise me to find out it was them."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lying here I drift in and out of consciousness. I jump as I hear a loud clang. Raising my head, I find the huge male picking up his mask and several items off the floor. He turns to face me, and something about the look on his face tells me that things like that don’t usually occur. "I am sorry, little female. I did not mean to awaken you."Rubbing my eyes sleepily, I hear his footsteps come closer. "It doesn't matter anyway. I have a feeling my Master will want me back to my duties soon."
Looking up, I see the male sitting on the chair next to the bed. He nods in agreement. "I suspect you are correct. He was hanging around a couple of days ago."
Tentatively I look to the male, and he smiles softly. "You have been asleep a little over a day, little female."
Closing my eyes, I lower my head. I hope he does not think I am disrespectful. Taking a deep breath, I try to make my voice as soft and calm as possible. "Tina. My name is Tina."
As I open my eyes, I expect to find a fist coming towards me. Instead I find the male bowing his head deeply. "I am Xo'tral, honored guard and nephew of Grand Elder So'ghan, leader of the Kel'ghen clan."
After his introduction, I bow my head in respect and acknowledgement. I wince in pain as I try to stretch my legs, my muscles stiff and sore from days of non-use, but at least it is not the cold table as per normal. Closing my eyes, I hear a low growl. "Do you wish for me to call the Healer?"
Smiling tentatively, I shake my head. "No thankyou. I'm just a little stiff."
Xo'tral laughs as he rises off the chair. "I imagine you would be. I shall run a bath and you can soak."
My heart races, and I shake my head no. Xo'tral leans his body to one side and crosses his arms. "I am not going to take no for an answer, little fem… Tina. Besides, To'amet has requested it."
Lying there as I listen to the water running into the huge bath, I wish there was a way out of taking the bath. Who is this To’amet? Is he the male I'm to serve next? The bath is filled in record time, and I shake my head as Xo'tral begins to remove his armor. I try to move across the bed as he reaches for his loincloth. He ceases his actions when he sees this. "Settle your heart, Tina. I shall leave my cloth on."
Even though he tells me this, I still shudder with fear. I fully expect Xo'tral to pull the sheet away from my body. Instead he simply reaches underneath me and picks me up, sheet included. As he carries me towards the bath, I can feel the heat from his body through the soft sheet. I know this sounds silly, but it feels both soothing, yet frightening at the same time. Will he do anything to me?
Xo'tral steps down onto the sitting platform, then down slightly again, and once more. There must be stairs. I hiss slightly at the heat from the water on my feet as he makes his way down the stairs. So that I have time to adjust to the water, Xo'tral carefully lowers me into the bath.
The door slides open and I jump, causing Xo'tral to growl slightly. Hearing a grunt, I look towards its source. It is the Healer. "Good. The water should help with your movement."
Something is placed under my back and shoulders, then Xo'tral moves away. I am surprised to find myself floating. Hearing the Healer growl softly in my direction, I carefully lift my head. He nods to me. "Move your body slowly through the water, little female."
As I move through the water, I listen to them talking. I see the Healer place his hand on Xo'tral’s shoulder. "I fear you have a slight problem, my friend."
Xo'tral chuckles softly as he nods his head in agreement. "I kind of guessed I did."
The Healer looks to me and lowers his voice so I cannot hear. After a few moments, the two males bow to each other then Xo'tral leaves the room. The Healer slowly approaches me. I quickly glance to him then, look away. "I am sorry, little female, but you are to return to your duties."
Looking at his face, I see the sadness in his eyes. I lower my head and nod. He sighs as he turns to leave. "I shall be back with some clothing for you."
I hope it was worth the wait. I'll try not to make it over a year between updates next time.
