She had always known she was different. It didn’t take a genius to see that. The fact that her skin was smooth, blemish free save for a smattering of freckles across her dark features, and her body smaller, more compact then other females around her made her painfully aware, and always had. Her father tried his best to reassure her, explain to her, how she was simply…special. Genesis was not sure she wanted to be special. Not if it meant having to hide in the little room she was allowed for herself during breeding season. It was for safety though, as she was often reminded. At times, males did not know the difference between a fragile creature and one used to taking it rough. Tears coursed down her face miserably and she sighed, falling back to stare up at the ceiling where holograms of stars twinkled down at her. She raised a hand, closing one eye and squinting up at one in particular, tracing it with her finger. Earth…she had grown up hearing the name, and often wondering if staying with the clan was her best option…she had learned others of her kind lived on the small blue planet, living life normally…not having to worry about being...special. Ve’era watched his adopted child as she poked moodily at her food. He didn’t enjoy seeing her in such a state, but knew there was really nothing to be done. Breeding would begin and for the time she was stuck being limited in where she could travel. He knew this stressed and annoyed her, but he felt it was for her own good. His little Anan’maya as he liked to refer to her was no matched for the ruthless males who would have gladly taken advantage of her. She often argued she was more then capable of handling herself, but he felt it better not to even risk her life. “Genesis…your food will get cold…” Her bright eyes drifted to glance at him before she sniffed and stabbed the meat sitting before her harder. “So? Why does it matter?” He felt his mandible twitch slightly. Such insolence…and yet… Calmly he reached over, snagging the offending food from her plate before she could annihilate it further. “I am aware of your dislike for my orders, but starving wont have me revoke them”. Her normally dark features darkened further at his words. “I don’t understand it”, she finally grumbled. “I hate being confined to my rooms…I hate sitting in there and doing nothing…it is not fair!” He chewed his food thoughtfully, continuing to observe her with interest. “It is for your own well being Anan’maya”, he told her after he had swallowed the mouthful. “What is the point of having a name that means One who cannot be Broken if you think I will be broken!? I am more then capable of fending for myself, have I not proved that?” She was looking at him in a way that almost made him want to chuckle. His eldest son had often looked at him in such a way prior to leaving for his hunt, when he had been but a young pup who never got his way. “It is not that I don’t believe you incapable of handling yourself, I simply wish to keep you safe. I am more then aware how some males tend to act, particularly those who are newly blooded and have something to prove. I was one of them at one point.” His dark eyes watched the expression go from one of frustration on her face to one of mild acceptance…though he did not entirely expect her to back down completely. As a human he had come to find her many ways of showing displeasure rather interesting. He knew his previous mate would have enjoyed it as well, for she had often found things out of the norm to be amusing. Sadly, Nai’ma had passed when Genesis was but a tiny pup. She had been ill, but the day he had brought the screeching little babe to her, it had seemed as if a thousand suns had exploded within her face at once. She had been delighted to finally have a girl for her own, as the vast illness had made it virtually impossible to have any more children after their son. As much as it had devastated them both, Genesis had been a blessing, welcomed by them, particularly with their sons absence once he had been sent to complete the Chiva, or test all unblooded males went through. It often took days, months, or even years…in this case…he only hoped the boy now had a vast amount of trophies given how long he had been away. But Ve’era knew the universe was vast, and many planets existed within its embrace. He did not doubt his son had survived and would return to them when he felt he had gotten enough that would force his status in the clan to skyrocket. Ve’era was still fairly young himself, but he had lost his desire for the hunt when Nai’ma had passed, the sickness becoming too much for her. For some time he had blamed the little ooman child for his mates failing health, claiming it was the Childs greediness when she suckled from the females breast, or her constant crying at all hours of the day and night. He had begun to question if it had been a mistake to save her from the failing little planet she had come from...but Nai’ma…ever the valiant woman, would hear none of it. She had coddled the babe, rarely putting her down, singing to her in their native tongue until the child’s cries had died down into whimpers, and then finally sleep. She did this until her very last breath, and even on her deathbed had made one point clear to Ve’era. Nothing was to harm her little girl, not even himself. Lost in his memories, he almost missed what the young woman said next. “…don’t even see why it matters…once your son comes back its not as if you will even recall me.” Ve’era scowled, and emitted a low, warning growl. “Genesis, you are my child because my self and Nai’ma permitted it. I kept your life going because my mate threatened my very manhood if I didn’t, and over time I have come to care for you more then most fathers of my kind do for their daughters. But never think I am not capable of emitting the punishment your mother would not if she were still here. Ra’tul’s return does not mean I will simply forget I have another child, human or not. I sense there is more behind your misery then simply being confined to your room. I will tell you now though, speak ill of how I handle my affairs again and I will show you the true meaning of misery and confinement”. Acid green eyes met his after his warning and kept his gaze for a long moment, showing her continued desire to defy…but after a few seconds they lowered submissively. “Forgive me…I am simply…I…was wrong to assume…” He continued to watch her for a moment then sighed, his hardened gaze softening. It was days like this he wished his mate were still around. Though over the past few years he had gotten much practice in handling a female…he still often had trouble understanding them completely. Gently he reached out, taking her much smaller hand in his larger clawed one and giving it a gentle squeeze. “ You are forgiven…I understand this is frustrating, but I only do it because my need to keep you safe overrides anything else. Some young warriors may forget you are not of our kind and to think one would take advantage or harm you…well..it is simply a thought I do not wish to think of. Here, if you really wish to get out, go visit the ships greenhouses…they are usually quiet and empty save for the servants who tend to them. Not only will you be safe and out of harms way…but you can look at those funny gas balls you are so fond of staring at and observe the plant life from various planets”. For a long minute she didn’t respond…then a tiny smile spread across her face. Ve’era clicked his mandibles in approval, having long ago figured this stretching of the lips to be a sign of happiness or acceptance. When she had been younger, he had often thought she was in pain…when she showed teeth he had been offended, thinking the young female thought to challenge him…until a quick study had indicated its real meaning. “Now go...unless you wish to remain inside and help me-“.He didn’t even finish his sentence before she was up and heading towards the door. A soft chuckle escaped him. Always on the go’ he thought, bemused by her eagerness to leave, not that he minded. On her way out, Genesis was brought up slightly short by a thick body blocking her way. She blinked up at the large Yautja male standing before her, one of his hands raised in preparation for ringing the comm. She ducked her head in respect before moving past him, feeling his gaze on her back as she quickly made her way down the hall then hurriedly disappeared around a corner. Dala’pathi stared after the ooman female for a moment, admiring the way the netting of her clothing hugged her lithe figure, the way her hips swayed almost seductively as she hurried away from him, and the light whip of her vibrantly red hair as it flared against her dark skin, a vivid contrast to what was normal around the ship. He let out an appreciative growl then turned to enter his long time friend’s home. Ve’era glanced up when the considerably larger mottled male came to stand at his side, and beamed, standing up. They placed one of their clawed hands on one another’s shoulders and gave it a gentle shake in greeting. “Dala’pathi, my good friend, what brings you here?” Dala’pathi grinned. “Beyond a simple social call to see how a long time companion has been doing with his charge, I have good news to share with you.” Ve’era raised a brow as he settled back into his chair. “Oh? And what is that?” The larger male held out a paper for him. He took it and carefully unfolded it, letting his gaze drop to read the hastily scribbled note. He had to read it slowly, not wanting to miss anything, but when he was done, his jaw slid open slightly before he stared up at Dala’pathi, who had taken the time to examine the room they were sitting in. “I…is this true? He…he finally returned? My son…” Genesis ran her fingers along the petals of the flower she was sitting in front of, enjoying the velvety texture beneath her fingers. Her father had been right…the greenhouse was a comforting spot, and was blissfully empty. Even the servants who tended to it were absent, and she had no complaint on that matter. It was hard enough as it was simply trying to make it through the halls without being noticed, particularly given the fact that everyone, female and male alike, seemed to be horribly…well…horny. It was not uncommon for her to be cornered occasionally, but thankfully the abundance of females was a good distracter, and if she got lucky, one would pass by with a strong enough scent that the male would become distracted and she could slip away. So it was nice that she could lay as she was, surrounded by nothing but the simple beauty even hardcore creatures like the Yautja seemed to create when they so wished. She hummed to herself, stroking the flower gently. Her eyes closed as she felt it blossom beneath her touch, stimulated slightly. She faintly recalled a human lullaby she had often sang to her self at night when she couldn’t sleep. “Somewhere…over the rainbow…way…up…high….there’s…a…land that I’ve heard of...once in a lullaby. Some…where…over the rainbow...sky’s are blue….and the dreams you dare to dream really do come true…” “Your voice is magnificent….” She jerked, eyes flying open at the soft comment. Rolling over she found a set of dark, yellow eyes fixated on her. The young male had come in quietly, intending to take a break for a moment. He was newly arrived home from a hunt and though most were normally more then happy to show off their trophies, particularly during such a time as this, he had simply needed momentary shelter from the overcrowding of others. He had ducked into the first place he had come across…and had been surprised to see the odd little female laying as she was. But he had been more then distracted by the sound of her voice as it poured from her, singing something he neither understood nor recognized. Her tone had simply been…captivating though and he had forgotten all that lay waiting for him outside, settling down to listen. He saw the fear and anxiety in her face and held up a hand, getting to his feet as she did, which only made her freeze in place. “No please…I assure you I am not here to harm you…I was merely escaping others and…I heard you…forgive me…I…” “Ra’tul! There you are! We were looking for...oh…we didn’t realize you were with her…” Genesis stared at the other. So…this was the famed Ra’tul. She heard to rather sour note in the young males tone as he spoke of her, indicating they really had not expected to see her out and about for once. It was clear Ra’tul himself didn’t quiet understand the tone either and looked confused. But Genesis saved him the embarrassment of having to be in her presence for much longer and bowed her head in respect…after all…he was a blooded warrior now. She could see that much by the mark burned into his forehead as well as the multiple scars that lined his mottled arms. He was almost reddish brown in color, but they stood out as clear as day on his skin tone. She kept her head bowed, even more so as the small group that had come looking for their friend stared her down, making sure she would remember her place in their presence. After what felt like ages, they finally ushered their companion out. Genesis peeked through her bangs, seeing his expression was slightly confused, but he could obviously do little as they forced him out, speaking and laughing loudly as young males tended to do, boasting of their own hunts and trophies and their eagerness to find mates, and then demanding to hear of his own tales. Genesis waited until the door had closed and sighed, sinking down onto her knees.
