Author’s notes:
Lately I have developed a slight Hannibal obsession after watching
Red dragon again, so I just had to write a slash story. The title is
taken from the great Nirvana song.

Chapter 1 – Old enemies
Will stood at the helm
of his boat, looking at Molly and Josh who had stretched out in the
sun. They were home again. Their house was already visible in the
distance, the pier coming closer and closer. Two months spent on the
sea and now they would soon be home. The home Will could barely stand
to enter.
Too much had passed
there, too many bad memories. Dolarhyde and Lecter. Endlessly
haunting his dreams. Even now he thought he still saw the blood that
had seeped into the carpet where Dolarhyde had lain.
He knew that it was merely a memory and his imagination, but it was
enough to keep him awake at night.
Ever since Will had
gotten out of the hospital after Dolarhyde's attack, the family had
avoided the house. On the sea they could feel
save, away from any dangers that might attack them. Even Will managed
to sleep without the usual nightmarish dreams that haunted him while
they stayed at home. They had spent most of the time sailing and
trying to forget, only returning to their home to get their mail from
time to time.
As they did this time.
A few days, a week at most and they would be off again, running from
the nightmares of their past. The nightmares that lurked in every
corner of their house, waiting to jump at them at night.
As the pier came closer
Will could spot somebody standing there and he couldn't help the
uneasiness spreading in his stomach. Never before had someone waited
for them. The urge to turn around and run was immediately there, his
experiences having shaped his reactions. But Will resisted. If
somebody had something to tell him, that was important enough to come
personally it was better to just listen to it and hope that it wasn't
too bad.
As the ship neared the
pier Will was finally able to recognize the figure of Jack Crawford.
A frown spread over his features, different possibilities of why his
former boss would visit him swimming through his mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Will sat down in his beach chair, sliding a glass of
iced tea over to Jack Crawford, who was sitting opposite him. He
couldn't help but remember the last time Jack had visited him and the
horrors that came with it.
But not this time. No matter how many families were in danger he
wouldn't cave. He wouldn't risk his family again, just to save some
people he didn't even know. And if there was a little voice in the
back of his mind that screamed 'liar' and always sounded like Lecter,
so be it. He would stay with his family and his boats this time.
“What brings you here, Jack?”
Will didn't really want to know and yet he asked. Maybe that was
the bravery Hannibal had always spoken about. Bravery and foolishness
seemed to be very alike, when it came to his life. He could feel
Crawford's eyes sliding over his body, taking in his deep tan and his
sun-bleached hair. That the other man was obviously stalling did
little to calm Will, only heightening his suspicion.
“Lecter's escaped.”
The single sentence felt like a vicious
punch to his gut. His mind was screaming at him to run as fast and as
far as possible and to never look back. But he stayed in control, the
calm mask he had worn every time he visited Lecter's cell immediately
slipping into place. Only someone who knew him completely would have
recognized the momentary twitch of his mouth. Someone like Lecter.
His heart pounding in his chest Will asked the first question,
that came to his mind.
“How did he escape?”
Not that he really cared. Lecter was free and that was all he
needed to hear. It was enough to destroy his peace permanently. But
Will knew too well what Crawford wanted to ask of him and he simply
didn't want to hear it yet. He wanted to stay in the moment of calm
before the storm, hoping that it might pass him by without too much
damage.
“He was transfered to better
accommodation, when he escaped.”
Better accommodation? How could they be
as stupid as that? Will could almost hear Lecter laughing at them,
his voice deep and rich, sending shivers down Will's spine. And then
Jack asked the question Will had dreaded
ever since Lecter's name had come up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“No. You can't be serious.”
Desperation was coloring Molly's voice as it rung in Will's ears
while her fists started to weakly pound on his chest. Tears were
pouring down her face, smearing her mascara. Will wanted to cry too,
but he needed to be strong and do what he had to do.
“Molly, I don't have a choice...” The look on her face
was enough to force Will to trail off into silence.
“DON'T...Don't try to tell me there is no choice.” She
stopped to wipe away the tears on her face, smearing even more
streaks over her cheeks. “Why can't we just sail away and
forget like we did before?”
“Because no matter where we go, we
will never be save.”
Will could hear Hannibal's words echoing in his mind, reminding
him that he could never escape the doctor's clutches. But as long as
Lecter was locked away he could at least try to pretend. And that was
enough for him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Will stared out of the windows of Jack Crawford's guest
room, musing on everything that had gone wrong in his life. In
the end it all came down to Lecter. The fascinating, insane doctor he
had once respected and trusted with his life.
He was the one, who had kept Will's sanity intact after the Hobbes
case, talking him through his fears on countless evenings. He was the
one, who made Will question that very sanity every
time he looked at him and caused lust to stir in the FBI
profiler's body.
All his scars were due to Lecter too. The long curved cut going
from the base of his cock up to his belly button and the round scars
where Dolarhyde's bullets had pierced
his body. And these were only the physical ones.
Even his dreams were monopolized by Lecter in the same way that
they had been ever since he had first met Hannibal. Before Will had
known that the charismatic doctor was an insane serial killer, he had
appeared in more than one of Will's erotic fantasies.
But after he had almost died every erotic situation he had imagined
before had been twisted and turned into
something gruesome and painful.
Lecter had almost taken his life twice and now he had lost Molly
and Josh because of him. His wife had decided that it was better to
leave him, than to risk facing their pasts again. She had given him
the choice to either forget about Lecter or loose her and Josh.
It had been an easy choice, even if it had broken his heart. It
was better to never see them again and know that they were save,
instead of finding them lying in a morgue with some of their internal
organs missing.
As he stared out into the dark night Will was unaware of the blue
eyes watching him from the other side of the road.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After he had taken care of the late Dr. Chilton Hannibal had
returned to the USA, buying himself a large estate in the middle of
nowhere. It was pathetic how easy it had been to slip through the
FBI's net, but they hadn't yet gotten their best profiler back. Will
Graham.
It was true that Clarice Starling had
been interesting and talented too, but nobody had ever caught his
attention like Will. Although she had known who he was Clarice
had easily been seduced by his wit and intelligence, almost
forgetting that she was about to be disgusted by his so called
'crimes.' Will had been completely different from her, resisting his
seduction, no matter what he had done. A real challenge.
And she possessed nothing of the internal darkness, that had
always drawn him to the beautiful FBI profiler. A darkness very alike
to the one Will was currently staring at, while he stood at Jack
Crawford's window.
“Careless, Will.”
The quietly spoke words echoed in the silent and empty room. If he
wanted to kill him Hannibal could easily have done so at the moment.
How fortunate that he had different plans for his fair FBI agent.
Completely different plans.
A secretive smile spread over Hannibal's face as he stepped away
from the window.
