Title: My Deepest Apologies, Master.
Author: SapphirexKat2
Rating:PG, Overall:NC-17
Warnings (per chapter): SLASH. Slight angst and fluff.
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Anakin... duh.
Summary: Anakin always gets into deep sh!t and Obi-Wan is always there to bail him out. Anakin always says, "I'm sorry," but sometimes, that isn't enough.
Author's Notes: Only 'cuz I can't help myself. I love these two together. Whenever Anakin apologizes it doesn't really look like he means it. Come on, he must be doing something else to make Obi-Wan forgive him. Heh.
DISCLAIMER: If you don't know who created Star Wars, you need freakin' help. All this but the plot belongs to George Lucas.

Scene I: The Predicament

Obi-Wan never really understood what he had gotten himself into all those years ago. In his love and devotion to Qui-Gon Jinn, he blindly accepted his dying request without a second thought. Obi-Wan would do anything for his former master, and if that meant training a boy he hardly knew, then he would without a second thought.
That was ten years ago.
And during the past three years, Obi-Wan swore that he had grown thirty years older with the burden, worry, and fear for Anakin Skywalker. Although his Padawon was already nearing nineteen he still had the immaturity and rationale of a passionate sixteen year-old. Obi-Wan learned more from those three years than he did in his entire life - and that was saying a lot. Anakin was reckless, and Obi-Wan had to show control. Anakin was hasty, and Obi-Wan had to be patient. Anakin was blunt, emotional, and distracted. Obi-Wan had to be tactful and hone his rationale and focus. There were many things that the Padawon was and the Jedi, not, but it never lessened the teacher's love for his apprentice. In many ways, Obi-Wan was grateful, but in many more ways, he just wanted to the Force to take him to his former Master. Anakin would definitely be the death of him - intentionally or not.
Obi-Wan often wondered: when Anakin would become a Jedi, how could he possibly take an Apprentice, when he wasn't a very good one himself? Of course, Anakin was very skilled in the Jedi ways, but his personality needed much work in order to achieve the level of a wise Master. He might have trouble channeling information to his future Padawon, or even setting a desirable model. Obi-Wan swore he grew gray hairs at the thought.
He hoped that he could remain patient until Anakin's Trials and keep his duty as a proper teacher. The last thing Obi-Wan wanted to do was fail as Anakin's mentor. That was why he was so hard on the Padawon with lectures and sparring and studying. If Anakin was the Chosen One, then Obi-Wan would train him to his full potential, no matter what obstacles were presented.

And so the Jedi Knight now tried to remember his promise to Qui-Gon, Anakin, and himself as he pinched the bridge of his nose, hoping to alleviate the throbbing at his temples and forget the whole situation altogether. In his other hand was a clip-board with a thin stack of paper. In front of him was a very solemn looking Padawon sitting on the sofa of their shared quarters. Cerulean eyes were making out patterns on the beige carpet as Anakin awaited the oncoming lecture.
Obi-Wan took several deep breaths before gazing quite angrily at the younger man. His gray eyes gave off a stern feel as frustration and disappointment pooled inside of him. Before Obi-Wan knew it, he was speaking.
"You were terribly out of hand," he began as gently as he could, succeeding to get his voice a decibel short of yelling. Anakin remained silent, much to his pleasure. "This... this, my dear Padawon, exceeds all of your other mishaps, and I thought nothing could top nearly bedding an Ambassador's wife!"
Anakin looked up then. "She came onto me!" he defended. "I was --"
Obi-Wan waved a dismissive hand. "Yes, we've been through that before, Anakin," he cut in harshly. Anakin immediately closed his mouth and resumed to sulking, looking much like a boy getting scolded by his mother. Obi-Wan's heart nearly melted at the sight, but he was terribly upset, and no amount of Anakin's pouting could change that. "And you still should have been more resistant," he added pointedly, although he had told Anakin that many times before. The situation nearly two years ago still made him feel incredibly jealous. Someone else touching his Padawon... Not to mention the tremendous trouble it would have caused...
Anakin had a faint smirk on his lips, but it was hidden from his master.
"Have you seen this report?" Obi-Wan asked rather rhetorically, getting back to the situation at hand. He waved the object in question in his grip. Of course Anakin had seen it, he made sure he read it before he'dwould start lecturing. He glanced at the first page and cringed, looking away abruptly. It was covered with words, numbers, and red marks. "Do you know of all the damage you have caused, Anakin?"
The pupil knew his teacher was upset when using his given name. Well, it was either Obi-Wan was angry or... but they weren't doing that right now. Anakin knew it was better to acknowledge his distressed mentor. "Yes, Master," he replied rather mechanically. Obi-Wan seemed satisfied with the deadpanned response.
"You blew our cover..."
"Yes, Master."
"...you nearly blew up the main hangar of the Republic Council Hall..."
Anakin wanted to explain that it was partly the assassinators' fault, but didn't. "Yes, Master."
"...took my Speeder..."
It was the closest one, unless Obi-Wan preferred him to take one of the Republic's representatives'.
"...without me, by the way..."
Obi-Wan was too busy trying to stop the other Separatist assassins. Anakin couldn't wait for him while the main group got away.
"...and you crashed it..."
Anakin gave a small smile. He had no choice, really. Besides, it did stop a couple of the rebels.
Obi-Wan's frowned deepened as he sensed Anakin's thoughts. "Do you find this amusing?" he asked angrily. His Padawon was so immature sometimes! Sure, blowing up stuff might seem fascinating, but the consequences were far from it.
Anakin looked up then, shaking his head with an innocent expression. "Of course not, Master," he replied. "I know it was your favorite." For that, Anakin really was sorry.
"That may be, but you could gotten seriously injured." Obi-Wan's voice was more subdued as his personal feelings arose. "You could have died, and then what?" When he had left the Council Hall in Anakin's Speeder and saw his in shambles on a roof, he was terribly worried and would have simply died if he didn't sense Anakin's presence still zooming about. Obi-Wan cared more about Anakin's life than his own, and to know that Anakin was so reckless with his made the Jedi Knight want to cry.
Anakin's eyes softened. "I'm sorry, master." He made to stand up and embrace him, but Obi-Wan stepped back and pointed to the sofa, his gray eyes filled with anger once the moment had passed.
"I'm not finished yet."
The Padawon nodded numbly and sat down again.
"And you nearly caused the whole section to explode when the rebels crashed into a club -which the Jedi Council has to repair - as you boarded rebels' Speeder and tried to control it. You pressed the self-destruct button!" Obi-Wan was nearly yelling by now, his voice slightly controlled since he never was a loud person. "Luckily Master Windu came when he did and shut it off."
So that was a huge mistake. How was Anakin to know that those symbols above the encased red button meant "self-destruct" and not "brake"?
"Yes, you managed to keep the assassins from escaping, but you caused so much damage in the process!" Obi-Wan dropped the clipboard on the coffee table and placed his hands on his hips, truly at a loss. "Have I not taught you well?" he asked softly.
Anakin's heart hurt where it throbbed in his chest. His Master didn't need this much stress and trouble. He deserved a Padawon who was perfect and would do everything he said, an Apprentice who could go out and not worry him so much. Anakin knew he could never be this, but he desperately hoped that Obi-Wan would accept and love him nonetheless.
Obi-Wan sensed all of Anakin's thoughts and sighed guiltily, kneeling in front of his Padawon who was beginning to tear. He abruptly embraced Anakin and held him tightly, inhaling his scent. Anakin nuzzled against his neck affectionately.
"You're a wonderful Padawon, Anakin," Obi-Wan confessed softly. "But you are too reckless, especially on our missions. You simply need to work on your judgment, but I wouldn't trade you for anyone else in the whole universe. Do you believe me?"
Anakin nodded. "Yes, Master," he replied, his voice muffled but Obi-Wan's tunic. "Of course I do. I just... want you to be proud of me."
Obi-Wan pulled away with difficulty and smiled benignly at the younger man. All frustraion had gone from his gray eyes, only leaving love and tenderness. "And I am proud of you, my dear Padawon. Do not ever forget that, no matter what happens."
"Yes, Master." Anakin felt a lot better by simply hearing those words. They meant more to him than Obi-Wan could imagine, for they dispelled the darkness within Anakin's heart.
"I'm afraid, though, we still have to face the Jedi Council," the Knight said with deep regret. "And as your Master, I am responsible for you. You will explain your case, and I will help formulate a proper punishment."
Anakin winced. Obi-Wan was the worst when it came to that. "Yes, Master."
"I will also defend you, but I will concede to the Council if they have a good point against you."
"Yes, Master."
Obi-Wan smiled sympathetically. It broke his heart to see his headstrong Appentice disheartened, but this was a good lesson learned. Just too bad for Anakin that he always learned things the hard way, but Obi-Wan did warn him many times before.
"We have a little more time before we go," he said, standing. "Is there anything else you want to say?"
Anakin looked up at him, grinning. "Is that an invitation?" he asked slyly. Obi-Wan hid his amusement and crossed his arms sternly.
"No, my Padawon. It is not." His tone was firm and left no room for further ideas.
The younger man pouted. "Then, no, my Master."
Nothing that Anakin would do would make Obi-Wan love him any less. If anything, each fault made him love his Apprentice much more. Obi-Wan knew that his life would be mundane -but a lot easier - if he had a "perfect" pupil, but he wouldn't live as much. He wasn't a very bright Padawon himself, since Qui-Gon Jinn had to save him so many times and reprimand him on more than one occassion. Obi-Wan only hoped that he would be a great mentor as his former one was to him. Anakin Skywalker, he decided, was the greatest lesson and gift that Qui-Gon could ever give him.
"We should be leaving, then." Taking the clip-board, the Jedi Knight headed towards the door, his Padawon following him. Obi-Wan braced himself for the all the reasoning and explanations that were to be made in the next one, mabye two, hours, but he didn't care. Anakin was very much worthy of the trouble and effort.
