Vocabulary: No, angelus in this arc is Latin for angel and not interpreted as our wonderfully brooding and ensouled vampire named Angel who happened to be named Angelus before his cursed-with-a-soul deal. In that state of mind, translated from Latin, archangelus means archangel, cælum means heaven, spes means hope, and salus means safety.~Wings of Beginning - Prologue~
The sanction was given and bold adventurers seeking to make a name for themselves set out to find an alternative home for their people. It wasn't as if they exhausted their resources like many others in the universe, their numbers had increased to the point where they had no choice but to seek to colonize somewhere. To visitors from another part of the universe, they were a people known as the Cælumi because their planet was named Cælum by both the people and those beyond the stars. Yet while they were known as the Cælumi, they called themselves Angelus. They were born much like a humanoid child, but as they grew older, wings developed and whatever color the feathers were, revealed the inner power of the child. The Angelus also lived longer than most beings of other worlds. That, in itself, added to their problems, even with their birth rate not as high as others.
They found a suitable planet with natives who were willing to let the Angelus come and share their planet. Ships carrying thousands set off to populate a part of the planet. One of the ships became damaged and they veered off course into another part of the universe. Where the planet they were going to was stable, named Spes, which the natives agreed to, the off course ship found its way to a less hospitable place. In the damage, they were left stranded and without communication. They did what they had to do to survive. They called this place Salus in hopes of it bringing safety to the later generations.
The lost Angelus banded together with the natives on that planet, who held them in awe, against the harsh wilderness. Together, they built their homes and made the best out of a not-so-good situation. It was a good thing they could mix their genes with each other, or else it wouldn't be as well off.
