Reviews for The Second Covenant

SPOILERS: Hey I went through the palaver of signing up to the site JUST so that I could review this story – it’s amazing, I absolutely loved it! Thank you for being so creative and writing so eloquently, I really enjoyed reading this. I haven’t read/don’t know much about Anita Blake so I, like Missy85 can’t comment on that. You managed to maintain a great balance between description, dialogue and exposition (especially with so much to be explained in terms of all the rules in the realm of witches and werewolves). And you were pretty consistent with those rules/explanations for why things happened. And might I add, whilst I loved her boys coming to the rescue as they did, I also loved how much stronger, in terms of her powers, than the guys she was... it’s about time.

I thought that the dialogue could have been better formatted at times, but it flowed well enough (it was just sometimes unclear who had said what). I also got lost a few times with all the D names but I liked the D’s idea so I didn’t mind so much – I just let images of countless attractive blond men (and one brunette) all meld into one another. I loved the characters, the original ones but especially the ones you made up (the Sons of the Sons of Ipswich were my favourite) and I also have to admit that I, like Slytherin, was rooting for Peyton, which brings me to another point. I was a bit baffled as to why you chose to include the added dimension of Cherish and Peyton’s relationship just for it to go nowhere. I liked it so much that I’m glad you had it in anyway, but I was still disappointed that in the end Peyton just says a few words after years of loving her and he’s now just apparently fine with it. (I also thought that she overreacted, especially in light of the fact that she was also involved with someone else). I understand the tension you wanted to create by having the triangle, but for one I just kind of felt like you were torturing us with the gorgeous relationship between those two that was never going to happen, and for two I felt it was poorly resolved and Peyton’s character was just left unacknowledged and unsung at the end of the story. I did almost scream when you know what happens to you know who near the end and I was glad that you found a way to bring you know who back because I love his character too, but I think you could have given more time to Peyton in the end.

I also really disliked the whole time travel thing. I could put up with it in the more general sense, and it was a creative twist, but I felt the Drustan thing was really unnecessary and brought up some unnecessarily unresolvable questions which didn’t exist for most of the story – like the fact that in light of how honest Dreux was with Cherish, and how close they were, you’d think that Dreux would have told her before the last few paragraphs of the story that he’d known/loved her his whole [modern day] life. It would have worked fine for her to go back and find Dreux there at the house alive. It would have worked because the spirit wasn’t central enough to change the timeline that dramatically – all the secondary characters would have still met because Cherish and Dreux got close independently of the drama with the spirit, and they all would have met Thanksgiving etc. She could have gone back with the boys to a normal house and explained where they’d been/what had happened. It just added unnecessary complications in my opinion.

HOWEVER – up until that point I was obsessed with the story – just the right amount of tension/angst/incredibly attractive men/humour/rapport/well timed suspense/mystery – I loved it. I’ve noticed that these reviews are from a fair old while ago talking about looking forward to a story with Molly and Dax so I assume it still hasn’t been written? I would also love to read it. I agree with Slytherin – you’d get so many more reviews on FF, and I think people would love it. It’s almost better suited to FF – I’m sure I’ve read more intense things on FF than this (in terms of ratings). Anyway, I know this is a long review but I hope it’s a welcomed one. I repeat – I loved the story, you’re fantastic, I was completely sucked in and didn’t want it to end.

I am loving your story! I dont read Anita Blake, so cant comment there but i love how you've interwoven the wolves to the covenant realm. Im also loving the banter between all the characters. Cant wait to read more! Back to the story...

Ok......*sigh. Ok. This was...bad. It was bad not because you're a bad writer, or didn't engage the reader, because, believe me, I don't have time to waste on 69 chapters. It was bad because of the Anita Blake tones. Just springing a new magical capability into the mix with out a way to lead up to it or explanation is like cheating. She can't just have whatever powers she wants....like Anita. And the whole pack thing!? Wowie. But I will say this, your story did make me watch the Covenant for like the 13th time. But really, I was so surprised at how much you took from Anita Blake, it made the story cheap. I think that you would have had a great plot without the extras, the parts that you didn't make up. But that's why it's fan fiction and we can do what we want.

Wow! This was an amazing story! I found it yesterday, and read all 69 chapters. I loved them all, though at times it seemed like Cherish was borrowing heavily from Anita Blake, well, the good parts of Anita Blake, not the annoying ones. The way that you strung this together, using a plot that gets kinda cliche after awhile, was inspired. Normally I hate reading Sister/Daughter stories, because they all start running together and sounding exactly alike, but I took a chance on this one and I'm glad that I did. I have to admit, that I was rooting for Payton, not Wolfie, but that's because I'm a Covenant Girl, and I like to see them stick together. If you want a wider reading base, you may try posting this on fanfiction . net as well, I've noticed that people don't review much on this site in this section, and the FFers do. Great job, and I can't wait to read the sequel!
