I haven't gotten the chance to read the last few chapters until just now. I'm so happy for Joe and Evie! I like how you described the encounter, not flowery, but simple and gentle, as an honest and practical woman such as Evie would have. As I read the story and hear Evie's "voice" I can't help but feel like I know her, have been where she's been and felt what she's felt. I can't help but find myself somehow attached to the characters (especially Joe *cough*). It's wonderfully written, nuit, I can't wait to read more.

What a fabulous story, Nuit! I love the way it's seen through Evie's eyes, and can imagine that's pretty close to what life would have been like then. Hearing her 'voice' just makes it more real to me. And Joe... well you'd have to be made of ice not to respond to someone like that! Joe and Evie finally getting together was just so beautifully written, it certainly was worth the wait. I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter...

I don't even know where to begin here. Wow. Can I say I just LOVE Evie's voice? I love the way she...describes and sets up a scene. The way this is written. Like an old woman reminising (sp?) and days gone by. It's just...I adore it.

Hilarious that the gang paid showed their hostages such a good time. It was no wonder they were loved throughout the country. :P

Oh, and of course, the big moment between Joe and Evie. I like the way you handled it. Could've easily just been a load of smut. But, you managed to make it beautiful and erotic all at the same time without going into every little detail. *applause*

    Can't wait for more. :P

Once again you've managed to create a chapter that has left me begging for more! You write Joe so perfectly it's as if you've plucked him right out of the film and put him into the story;) Every nuance of his character is so spot-on that it's very easy to identify with him, sympathise with him, ache for him:/ As for their 'first time', it is a beautiful joining of two people who have yearned for each other for a very long time. We know that they are both 'experienced' (Joe more so of course) yet you've still managed to make them seem in awe of each other:) Brilliant writing, fabulous progression of the story, wonderful characters that make your heart ache since we all know how the real story ends:):)

Just breathtaking - literally I didn't breathe for page after page until I got dizzy! Joe is both cocky and vulnerable and simply perfect in his desire for her. Evie has grown up alot and knows what she wants while still maintaining the naivete that's appropriate for her and yet being so strong. She is someone I want to know. Determined, loving, passionate just wonderful.

I think you did an incredible job of telling the story of their first time together without EVER losing Evie's voice. It was tender and sexy and loving and beautiful and I just love the two of them together. You have done a superb job in every way. I am brimming over with admiration and awe.

I’m always struck by your sensibilities about life, Nuit. That you see into people SO clearly and capture in a few words an amazing complex of emotions and experiences. “that now seemed so far away I wasn’t even sure I hadn’t dreamt them, as if that was some other Evie, and maybe it was.” I could give a million examples, like the hundred conversations never finished, but I will spare you!

Or this is one of my favorite lines: “The big pictures that the little newspaper type planted in my brain would leave my head spinning and then I would look up shocked to find meself still in the Rankin’s shop.” First, because it is JUST like that isn’t it and secondly because I think it says so much about Evie. About her curiosity and the fact that she lives in a very small world really, where she can take note of women wearing nice dresses and bonnets when its not on Sunday, and yet she reads about the “Indians” in America and wants to know the world. She is SO wonderful.

Her relationship with her father is so raw and tender and beautiful and painful, I think its extraordinarily well done. It’s hard to read the two of them together for the flood of emotion but it also feels full of grace too.

You brought me to tears with Evies conversations with Joe and God before I even got to the letter.

I know you angsted a lot over it, but it is just Joe. Honest and cards on the table and tender and sensual and brazen and angry and loving all at once. I think you got it just right.

I did scream when I got to the end of the chapter and realized that’s where you ended it. Lock the door and unplug the phone and don’t leave that computer till you write the next one!

*left arm flailing wildy* Wow, it's really hard to type with one hand.

Oh, but can I say that I LOVE this chapter. I love how you described Evie's "relations" with men. And, how she felt when she read the letter. Really, the way the letter is presented, like, not just all out there. But, how she read us excerpts. If that makes sense. And, what Jow says to her when they meet again.

    *dies* You. Are. BRILLIANT! :P

I don't know if I should praise you or strangle you for leaving it there!! What a heartwrenching letter! It's all I hoped for and then some. I've been waiting for this moment; the moment where Evie would come to realize that the sacrifices she'd made were not in vain and you didn't disappoint me! Joe's situation breaks my heart but his cheeky comment to her at the very end of the chapter was perfect. I can't wait to see what will happen now that they've found each other again. Simply brilliant chapter:) Bravo!

Oh no.. he doesn't leave Maggie at all, why would he? She loves him and vice versa. I think you will find that Joe has the ability to love a great many people in different ways, as does Evie. Thats the point...love- both his and hers- it is not finite and it burns bright. Take what you will from the story, thats the readers prerogative, but from this authors mind it is not anything about betrayal, very far from it. Maggie and Evie and all the rest of them share something, Joe, and he has enough for them all.

Ch 6. Ah! 3 years have passed. I was wondering how you would have Evie reconcile stealing Joe from poor Maggie. Very neatly done. Oh the powers of the author. I presume Maggie will now be off the scene and Evie's conscience can now be clear. Well sidestepped. Isn't writing great?

Beautiful characteristaions. Looking forward to more...

The actions begins! This chapter was brilliant, the interaction between Joe and Evie simply wonderful. It's heartbreaking though that she's been driven from her home, that Joe's gone away, that Evie's future is uncertain. You always manage to make the reader imagine that they are actually there, your attantion to detail, the lingo of the time, the way you set up a scene, it's all simply fabulous. PLEASE update soon!!
