This is... a seductive way to go for a story: the end of the movie strongly hinted at Dr. Lecter having some feelings for Clarice.

    BUT.

I think both Lecter and Starling are clearly OOC here. You are refering to that sometimes when you say that Clarice is normaly so sharp minded, but right now... there are a lot of things clashing, like Lecter going ‘God-Clarice are you alright, can you hear me?’ - I simply can't imagine the Lecter from movie or book saying something like that, or, for that matter, ever admitting to loving somebody, or wasting a thought on telling a lie - remember that he had no qualms what so ever to give false information about "Buffalo Bill" in "Silence of the Lambs" ?

Other way round: I can't imagine the Lecter you pictured here to gutting somebody and than throughing him out of a window, or cutting somebody's head open and frying his brain while the victim is still alive. I can't imagine the women who refuses to hand over the keys to Lecter in the first chapter to go hysterical about being in his power - she was so ago, and didn't even go hysterical at seeing Kendler's brain cooked.

What irked me most was probably Clarice going "That isn't fair" - sounds far to childlike, almost like whining. Remember that this is the women who would never, not in a thousand years, say: ‘Stop, if you loved me, you’d stop' ?

I think you picked two characters who are extremly complex and very, very difficult to get IC - I'd never try that myself. And you have the bad fortune that I read the books, including Hannibal, and know how they and their thoughts are IC.

I'm getting the impression that you pretty much ignored the really scary things about Lecter, which (to my mind) are not so much that he murders people but his extreme cleverness and ruthlessness and the fact that he has no scrupels and no pity to stay his hand.

I noticed that the first chapter, were you are still using the movie plot and dialogue, your writing really is very good: you are giving sensory details, which are great to make the actions come alive, but you don't get over-descriptive. I'd be very interested in seeing some fics of yours where you use characters which are less difficult to do than these two.

Sorry for the lengthy criticals review. I left my e-mail so you can tell me what a hair splitting spoil sport I am, and I'm going to post something here under the pen name Acharnae pretty soon, then you can take my poor attempts at writing apart.
